In 2020, I was struggling with something I couldn’t explain. A diagnosis — a fungal condition on my scalp — that the doctors traced back to the products I had been using for years. Products that had been marketed directly to me. To my community. Sold with beautiful packaging and familiar names, products I had trusted without question.
When I finally sat down and started reading labels — really reading them — I felt something I wasn’t expecting. I felt like a target. Not because I was being paranoid, but because the evidence was right there in the ingredient lists. Chemicals I couldn’t pronounce. Preservatives linked to hormone disruption. Synthetic fragrances hiding dozens of undisclosed compounds.
I was distressed. But more than distressed, I was uninformed — and I hadn’t chosen to be uninformed. The information simply hadn’t been given to me. There’s a difference between not caring and not knowing. I had never not cared about my health. I just hadn’t known what to look for.
That realisation changed the direction of my life. I stopped looking outward for blame and started looking inward for understanding. I began researching plant-based ingredients. I learned what our skin — specifically our skin, melanin-rich skin, Black and Brown skin — actually needs to thrive. I experimented. I formulated. I tested everything on myself first.
My Bath Bar was born from that healing. Not from a business plan or a trend. From a personal journey back to myself — and a deep conviction that no one in my community should have to go through what I went through simply because the beauty industry never prioritised their wellbeing.

My Bath Bar isn’t just a product anymore — it’s a community. Women from all walks of life finding their ritual, learning about their skin, and stepping into a sanctuary built specifically for them.
